Following the passage of a dry cold front late this morning, minimum relative humidity values will fall to 25% to 30% across most of interior northeast North Carolina during the mid to late afternoon timeframe. West to northwest winds will gust to between 25 and 35 mph through the afternoon and into the early evening, which will be conducive for the quick formation and spread of fires. Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source. including machinery. cigarettes. and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.
