Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will cross southeast West Virginia, southwest Virginia, and northwest North Carolina this afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms will produce very heavy rainfall. * WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE. Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin, southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following area, Mercer. * WHEN. Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - Very heavy rainfall rates, up to 3 inches per hours, and repeated rainfall over the same locations may produce flash flooding. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

At 747 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8 miles east of Chester, or near Richburg, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD. Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include. Lesslie, Fort Lawn, Richburg, Catawba, Fishing Creek Reservoir, and Edgemoor.
