SMWMHX The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a * Special Marine Warning for. S of Cape Lookout NC to Surf City NC out to 20 nm. S of Ocracoke Inlet NC to Cape Lookout NC out to 20 nm. * Until 700 AM EDT. * At 600 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located near Northwest Places, or 8 nm northwest of Big Ten Fathom, moving northeast at 20 knots. HAZARD. Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE. Radar. IMPACT. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include. Atlas Tanker, R-8 Buoy, Cape Lookout Bight, Northwest Places, Cape Lookout, and Ar285.
