Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will cross southeast West Virginia, southwest Virginia, and northwest North Carolina this afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms will produce very heavy rainfall. * WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE. Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin, southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following area, Mercer. * WHEN. Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - Very heavy rainfall rates, up to 3 inches per hours, and repeated rainfall over the same locations may produce flash flooding. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

At 1048 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 5 miles northeast of Downtown Asheville, or near B.R. Parkway-East Asheville To Craggy Gardens, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD. Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include. Downtown Asheville, East Asheville, West Asheville, North Asheville, Black Mountain, Woodfin, Swannanoa, Weaverville, Fairview In Buncombe County, and Biltmore Forest.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include. Lexington, Thomasville, Clemmons, Bermuda Run, Linwood, Denton, Richfield, Gordontown, High Rock Lake, and Newsom.

* WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE. A portion of Piedmont North Carolina, including the following counties, western Davie, Iredell, and western Rowan. * WHEN. Until 345 AM EDT. * IMPACTS. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 1028 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Areas in and around Little Creek, Dutchman Creek, and Beaver Creek up to their confluence with the South Yadkin River may experience minor/nuisance flooding in the near future. - Some locations that will experience flooding include.
