Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will cross southeast West Virginia, southwest Virginia, and northwest North Carolina this afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms will produce very heavy rainfall. * WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE. Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin, southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following area, Mercer. * WHEN. Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include. Downtown Asheville, East Asheville, West Asheville, North Asheville, Black Mountain, Woodfin, Swannanoa, Weaverville, Fairview In Buncombe County, and Biltmore Forest.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include. Lexington, Thomasville, Clemmons, Bermuda Run, Linwood, Denton, Richfield, Gordontown, High Rock Lake, and Newsom.

Some low-water crossings may become impassable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 1028 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Areas in and around Little Creek, Dutchman Creek, and Beaver Creek up to their confluence with the South Yadkin River may experience minor/nuisance flooding in the near future. - Some locations that will experience flooding include.
