At 828 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Plainfield, or 13 miles southwest of Indianapolis, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD. Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include. Indianapolis, Greenwood, Plainfield, Beech Grove, Mooresville, Southport, Homecroft, Indianapolis Int'l Airport, and Camby. This includes the following highways. Interstate 65 between mile markers 103 and 110. Interstate 70 between mile markers 63 and 76, and between mile markers 79 and 80.

The officials at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management have declared an Air Quality Action Day, in effect through Friday September 20. An Air Quality Action Day for Ozone has been issued. Ozone levels are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor exposure. Here are some recommended actions that the public can take: * Walk, bike, carpool or use public transportation. * Avoid using the drive-through and combine errands into one trip. * Avoid refueling your vehicle or using gasoline-powered lawn equipment until after 7pm. * Turn off your engine when idling for more than 30 seconds. * Conserve energy by turning off lights or setting the air conditioner to 75 degrees or above.
