Areas of dense fog, reducing visibilities to less than one- quarter of mile, will persist across the portions of southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina, including interstate 77 near Fancy Gap through most of the overnight hours. Motorists are urged to slow down to a safe speed, allow extra separation distance with surrounding vehicles, and use low beam headlights.

* WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE. Avery and Caldwell Counties in western North Carolina. * WHEN. Until 1115 PM EDT. * IMPACTS. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 725 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. Wilson Creek and its tributaries are known to flood some low-lying areas adjacent to the creeks and along Highway 90. - Some locations that will experience flooding include. Edgemont, Globe, Jonas Ridge, and a portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Linville Falls and Grandfather Mountain, - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
