Surface observations indicate that locally dense fog has developed across portions of the southern Shenandoah Valley, with visibilities anywhere from one quarter mile to only a few hundred feet. When driving in fog, motorists are urged to slow down to a safe speed, allow extra separation distance with surrounding vehicles, and to use low beam headlights. Fog will burn off quickly after 9 AM this morning.

Areas of locally dense fog have formed this morning across much of central and southern Virginia, and interior portions of northeast North Carolina. Visibilities average between one half mile and two miles, but will be locally reduced to one quarter of a mile in spots. Motorists are urged to use extra caution and be alert for rapid changes in visibility. The fog is expected to lift between 8 am and 9 am.
