The combination of a significant difference between high pressure over the southeast U.S. and low pressure remaining over the southwest Gulf of Mexico left behind after Tropical Storm Alberto passed through has maintained gusty winds across the Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas mainly from Hidalgo and Brooks County to the coast. Strongest gusts. over 40 mph. are near quick moving showers that are helping to mix down the gusts from above the surface. Winds should gradually diminish toward sunset and more rapidly after sunset, as daytime heating has helped to transport the gusts to the surface. Drivers should remain alert to sharp wind gusts near showers, and residents should keep lightweight objects indoors or under shelter until the winds subside.
