SMWMHX The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a * Special Marine Warning for. S of Cape Lookout NC to Surf City NC out to 20 nm. * Until 630 PM EDT. * At 503 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located 9 nm west of The Vicinity Of Highway 24-17 Bridge, or 19 nm north of Surf City, moving southeast at 30 knots. HAZARD. Waterspouts, wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, and large destructive hail. SOURCE. Radar. IMPACT. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Boats could suffer significant structural damage in high winds and hail. Small craft could capsize in suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include. HAZARD. Tornado and quarter size hail. SOURCE. Radar indicated rotation. IMPACT. Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. * This dangerous storm will be near. Jacksonville around 530 PM EDT. Swansboro around 540 PM EDT.
