The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Minnesota. Cannon River at Northfield affecting Rice and Dakota Counties. .Heavy rain has fallen overnight causing the Cannon River at Northfield to rise above flood state. * WHAT. Minor flooding is occurring, minor flooding is forecast, but moderate flooding is possible. * WHERE. Cannon River at Northfield. * WHEN. From early this morning to Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS. At 899.0 feet, Laird Stadium at Carleton College begins to flood; west gymnasium threatened. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 330 AM CDT Monday, the stage was 897.3 feet. - Recent Activity. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 330 AM CDT Monday was 897.3 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise to a crest near 898 to 899 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage late Wednesday morning. - Flood stage is 897.0 feet.

Water remains running high on area streams and fast responding rivers, as well as ponding in low areas. Some local roadways are flooded as well. Water will begin receding this evening, where it hasn't already. * WHAT. Local flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE. Portions of central, east central, south central, and southeast Minnesota, including the following counties, in central Minnesota, Sibley. In east central Minnesota, Dakota and Scott. In south central Minnesota, Le Sueur, Nicollet and Rice. In southeast Minnesota, Goodhue. * WHEN. Until 1000 PM CDT Monday. * IMPACTS. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 138 PM CDT, Thunderstorms over the weekend led to 3 to 5 inches of rainfall over the region. Local flooding is occurring in the warned area. - Flooding impacts will continue, but only light additional rainfall is expected through the warning period. More thunderstorms are in the forecast for late Tuesday, which will bear watching.

Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. The river level will fall later today and Tuesday, before rising to near Monday morning levels again Tuesday night. * WHERE. Cannon River at Northfield. * WHEN. Until early Thursday. * IMPACTS. At 897.5 feet, Flood waters reach Carleton College soccer fields. Babcock Park north of downtown begins to flood. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 930 AM CDT Monday, the stage was 897.4 feet. - Recent Activity. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 930 AM CDT Monday was 897.5 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise to a crest of 898.0 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage late tomorrow morning. - Flood stage is 897.0 feet. - Flood History. This crest compares to a previous crest of 898.1 feet on 10/06/2019.

Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE. Minnesota River near Jordan. * WHEN. From this evening until further notice. * IMPACTS. At 25.0 feet, Low lying areas and some roads along the river begin to flood and private sanitary sewers may experience problems. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 845 AM CDT Monday, the stage was 23.9 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise above flood stage later today to a crest of 26.6 feet tomorrow evening. It will remain above flood stage into the weekend. - Flood stage is 25.0 feet. - Flood History. This crest compares to a previous crest of 26.6 feet on 09/29/2016.
