Brief Description FLOOD ADVISORY
Detailed Description MIDDLE TANANA VALLEY- 1231 PM AKDT TUE JUL 26 2016 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FAIRBANKS HAS EXTENDED THE FLOOD ADVISORY FOR... THE CHENA RIVER UPSTREAM OF NORDALE ROAD... UNTIL 245 PM AKDT FRIDAY THE CHENA RIVER EAST OF NORDALE ROAD REMAINS NEAR BANKFULL WITH MINOR FLOODING IN SOME LOCATIONS. LOW LYING BOAT LAUNCHES AND RIVER ACCESS ROADS IN THE CHENA RECREATION AREA ARE FLOODED. 28 MILE RIVER ACCESS ROAD IS CLOSED. FLAT CREEK BOAT LAUNCH IS FLOODED. THE PORTIONS OF THE SPILLWAY UPSTREAM OF THE MOOSE CREEK DAM AREA ALSO FLOODED. THE RIVER IS NOW FALLING FROM TWO RIVERS EAST AND SHOULD CONTINUE FALLING SLOWLY OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. FROM THE MOOSE CREEK DAM DOWNSTREAM THE CHENA RIVER WILL REMAIN HIGH THROUGH FRIDAY AS WATER SLOWLY DRAINS OUT FROM BEHIND THE DAM. IN THE STEAMBOAT LANDING SUBDIVISION IN NORTH POLE...WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN AT MINOR FLOOD STAGE THROUGH FRIDAY. SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER WILL CONTINUE TO CROSS FREEMAN ROAD. RIVER WATER WILL INUNDATE SOME YARDS IN THE SUBDIVISION...AND GROUNDWATER FLOODING WILL OCCUR IN SOME BASEMENTS. THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ALASKA DISTRICT IS CURRENTLY OPERATING THE MOOSE CREEK DAM. FLOOD CONTROL GATES AT THE DAM STARTED REGULATING THE CHENA RIVER AT 6:00 PM ON 20 JULY 2016. THE DAM WILL BE REGULATING THE CHENA RIVER SO THAT FLOW DOES NOT EXCEED 12000 CUBIC FEET PER SECOND IN DOWNTOWN FAIRBANKS. GROUNDWATER WILL RISE TO NEAR THE GROUND SURFACE FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET WEST OF THE MOOSE CREEK DAM WITH MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE. RIVER NAVIGATION THROUGH THE MOOSE CREEK DAM IS UNAVAILABLE DURING OPERATIONS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY.
