Detailed Description WESTERN KENAI PENINSULA- 1102 AM AKDT SUN AUG 17 2014 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ANCHORAGE HAS EXTENDED THE FLOOD ADVISORY FOR... THE KENAI RIVER FROM SKILAK LAKE TO KENAI KEYS... UNTIL 1015 AM AKDT WEDNESDAY WATER LEVELS ALONG THE KENAI RIVER FROM SKILAK LAKE TO KENAI KEYS REMAIN ABOVE FLOOD STAGE AND ARE EXPECTED TO CREST LATE TONIGHT. WATER LEVELS WILL THEN SLOWLY FALL OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS BUT ARE NOT EXPECTED TO DROP BELOW FLOOD STAGE UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR THE KENAI KEYS AREA. ELSEWHERE WATER LEVELS CRESTED BELOW FLOOD STAGE ALONG THE KENAI RIVER UPSTREAM OF SKILAK LAKE AND ARE EXPECTED TO FALL OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. AS OF 10 AM SUNDAY MORNING...THE FOLLOWING WERE OBSERVED AT AREA RIVER GAUGES: THE KENAI AT COOPER LANDING WAS OBSERVED AT 12.37 FT. FLOOD STAGE IS 13 FT. THE KENAI BELOW SKILAK LAKE WAS OBSERVED AT 13.82 FT AND HOLDING STEADY. FLOOD STAGE IS 13.0 FT. THE KENAI AT KENAI KEYS WAS OBSERVED AT 12.0 FT AND HOLDING STEADY TO SLIGHTLY RISING. FLOOD STAGE IS 11.0 FT. IMPACTS: SOME MINOR FLOODING IN KENAI KEYS WITH WATER OVER THE ROAD AND AROUND HOUSES. THE SUBDIVISION IS STILL ACCESSIBLE. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED...OR PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT TAKES ONLY A FEW INCHES OF SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.
